Welcome to a new week! Last Friday we went over some of the plants that hummingbirds love. This week we are going to go a bit further and give you some more tips that you can use to bring the hummingbirds to your garden.
Add Some More Feeders/Flowers
Placing feeders close to flowers are going to increase the likelihood that hummingbirds will find them easily. They go to the flowers first and then to the feeders.
Use Hanging Baskets to Attract Hummingbirds
If you aren’t able to plant flowers due to where you live or because you have a lot of deer around (by the way check out our deer repellent post) buy some hanging baskets full of flowers. These can be found at garden centers and even some grocery stores have them.
Add Misters to Your Water Feature
Something that hummingbirds love is to bathe. A mister will give them the fine spray that they love. If you aren’t able to find birdbath misters, poking tiny holes into a hose you don’t use anymore is going to be a great option. Put it close to the birdbath so the mist’s caught in your birdbath basin.
Attract Hummingbirds by Putting Some Little Perches Around the Yard
Although it seems like they’re always moving, hummingbirds do come into land sometimes. Those tiny feet need someplace to rest. Find a few sturdy and small branches that you can put around the garden, deck or yard. If a hummingbird finds a perch in your yard that they love they will keep coming back.
Regularly Clean Your Feeders
When the weather gets warmer, the sugar water is going to spoil faster. Before refilling the feeder, make sure that you clean it well.
Don’t Use Chemicals When Trying to Attract Hummingbirds
Because hummingbirds have really high metabolisms, they’re incredibly susceptible to those chemicals you may be using for controlling pests in your garden. When you are trying to bring your hummingbirds back regularly, limit chemicals or avoid using them altogether. Also make sure that you’re not using them near or on the hummingbird feeders.
These are just some of the easy tips that you can use to bring hummingbirds to your garden. Once you have created a space that your hummingbirds love, you are going to see a few of these beautiful, tiny little birds in your garden and delighting your family.
