But it’s important to know when you can tell that your tree is sick. So we are going to look at some signs of a healthy tree and then we’ll look for some signs that your tree needs a little help.

Signs of a Healthy Tree

A Single Trunk – A healthy tree will have one trunk that will keep and maintain its form and strength.

New Growth – Your tree should produce some new growth each year. check your tree’s growth by measuring the amount of distance between the growth this year and the growth last year. You can find last year’s by the branch’s growth scars. Each species of tree will grow at different rates, so you should consider this when you are checking your tree’s growth.

Full Branches – Healthy trees won’t have broken or dead branches on this. You can try a simple test – snap off a twig from a branch to check if it’s dead or dormant. If it’s dead, it will break. If it’s living, it will bend.

Strong bark – You shouldn’t see any peeling or loose bark on your tree’s branches or trunk.

Healthy Leaves – Your tree’s leaves or needles based on the tree’s species should be the right size, shape and color based on the season you’re in.
