This is when the surface flakes or peels mainly because the surface freezes and thaws. In the beginning, this happens in little patches. However, this can eventually expand to bigger areas. This also could happen if the surface got a lot of water or was overworked.

This often will show up as blotchy spots, general differences in color, stripes, and dark spots. There are a few reasons that this could happen. These hollow bumps will show up right after the patio is completed. They might be small, around dime size. They also can be around 3” in diameter. They will often happen when the patio’s surface becomes sealed prematurely while drying. The culprit is sometimes the wind, which causes the surface to dry very fast.
