This month we are talking about problems with gutters. Today we are going to talk about some of the common problems that unmaintained gutters can cause you as a homeowner. So let’s look at some of the reasons why it’s so important to keep your gutters clean.
Your Unmaintained Gutters Can Cause Foundation to Lose Support
That soil around the house will be affected by the weather. It often will react in various ways to the changing temperatures and how much moisture is in the soil. Some kinds of soil are especially sensitive to the shifts.
If that soil under your foundation shifts, washes away or changes its volume because of weather, the concrete could lose the support. This could cause cracks to show up. So that is why you want to make sure you’re keeping your gutters maintained.
Gutters can Make Water Seep Into Your Foundation
When water’s collecting close to the foundation of your home, it may be that the water will go into the basement in your home. This can lead to moisture, water infiltration and even mold.
If your home’s foundation is saturated by a lot of water, that excess weight will cause a lot of pressure on your basement’s walls. This could cause them to crack, bow or move.
Unmaintained Gutters can Cause Damaged Walls & ceilings
When you have unmaintained gutters, they can cause water leakage in your home. that water will rot the wood where your gutters have been attached and cause moisture to get into the home. Not only that, but when there are ice dams in your gutters, the melting snow can get into your home’s shingles. So you want to make sure you are avoiding these problems by maintaining your gutters.
Gutters that Aren’t Clean can Cause Insect invasions
When water collects in your house’s gutters, it provides a great place for insects to breed, particularly mosquitos. Wet leaves and mud also will give birds a great place for wasps and bees to build their nests. Chances are that you are going to need to call a professional exterminator, since these insects breed very fast.
Unmaintained Gutters can Become Damaged
Along with all of the other problems due to clogged and unmaintained gutters, they also can become damaged. When you have clogged gutters, the water inside of them can’t go anywhere. They fill quickly to the top and that additional weight can cause them to warp and to rip off of your roof.
